A Better Lens at Spanish Football

Forza Futbol welcomes back Scoutfree with a match report direct from Poland. (Unfortunately he has to return home now.) Enjoy!   One of the biggest highlights of the 2012 Euro is the one that exists between the Irish NT and the crowd of fans supporting it.  Just 2 days before the match, it was hard not to see anything green  or an Irish flag hanging in Gdansk or Sopot, where normally one who see a Polish flag.  The […]

Vicente Del Bosque announced his final list of 23 who will be playing at Euro 2012. The biggest omissions were Roberto Soldado, Adrian and Iker Muniain. The latter two will most likely be representing Spain at the Olympics in August.  I personally feel really bad for Soldado as he is a hard worker but started to feel fatigue and lose steam at the end of the season. Negredo was selected, in my opinion, for his link up […]

Vicente Del Bosque announced this week that he would have three call ups for the 23 man squad that will play in the Euros based in the Ukraine and Poland,  due to football calendar. The preliminary list will be released on May 15th and consist of players that are a lock and players that might be taking part in the Olympics in August. The second round of announcements will take place after the Champions League final on May […]

Forza Futbol welcomes Sam Marsden from Futbol Grande to the FF family. Sam brings to us snippets, humor and interesting things from Spanish Football.  You can find more of us fine work here.         A yellow submarine through and through, club captain and probably bleeds yellow blood. Otherwise known as Marcos Antonio Senna da Silva- to those back home in his native Brazil- the adopted Spaniard’s central midfield presence this season has helped steer a sinking submarine […]

Vicente Iborra has arisen like a shining pearl, formed after years of frustrations and very drastic changes in circumstances at Levante. His rise took a lot of patience, hard work and constant support from the club. At age 19, he debuted as a tall and gifted striker with the first team in the King’s Cup and a few days later in La Liga, during the club’s last stint in the top flight since its most recent resurrection. He was […]

Forza Futbol welcomes back Craig Williams with a match report of the Spain x Venezuela friendly.  La Roja’s last match before the Euro cup. What we learnt from last night’s match… It was a case of tinker, tailor, soldado, Del Bosque as Spain cantered to a 5-0 victory over Venezuela last night in La Rosadela, Malaga. A hattrick from the Valencia forward, alongside goals from Silva and Iniesta, helped to put the sparkle and shine on what was the last match played […]

The Spanish National Team have released their new away kit, just in time for the Euros and friendly against Venezuela.  It looks a little like Uruguay’s kit no?  ‘La Azul Celeste’.  The kit pays homage to past glory with the inscription inside the neck “CAMPEONES DE EUROPA (EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS) 1966/2008″. The shirt has a dark blue band a la River Plate-ish and a very large shield.  The collar is round in a classic style.  The shorts will not be […]

Vicente Del Bosque released the pre-Euro squad for the February 29th friendly against Venezuela.  The big shock is no Torres.  For the first time Del Bosque has not called up Torres due to form.  Other players not mentioned are Pedro and Raul Albiol.  New to the list at last, is Roberto Soldado from Valencia. He has not been playing at 100% but deserves this call up for his solid season.  It’s only his third call up, the last time […]

Club Athletic de Bilbao has filled plenty of column inches in the Spanish press this season since the arrival of new coach, Marcelo Bielsa. The Argentine has revolutionised the way the Basque outfit plays, moving away from its very British style of long ball physicality to a more creative and thoughtful strategic approach. That’s not to say that los leones have forsaken their domineering presence on the pitch in order to adopt this more aesthetically pleasing style. The intensity […]

Pepe (@RamblingFool) was there live and in person at Wembley to see La Furia Roja take on the Three Lions in the recent friendly. Here’s his observations, thoughts and rants.  Enjoy! Yo soy Español (Español, Español) but I was born, and have lived my whole life in England, so the games between the two nations always carry a special feeling. Last Saturday 12th November 2011 at Wembley Stadium I attended my first of these clashes in person, I had had […]
