A Better Lens at Spanish Football

The last game of the group for Real Madrid is very much a dead rubber, Real Madrid already through to the knockout stages, and the Danish side are already guaranteed to finish bottom.

Real Madrid have been in very good form, winning 4 or their last 5 matches. The only match they did not win was the weekend Copa Del Rey fixture away at Olimpic. On the other side Copenhagen have also won 4 of their last 5 only losing 3-1 away at Juventus. Their recent good run has moved them up to 3rd in the Danish Super League. The Danish champions will embark on a 10-week winter break at the conclusion of this fixture.

Ancelotti may well experiment with regards to his line-up, due to the fact the place at the top of the group and knockout round is secure. Young defender Llorente is expected to make his debut in central defence. Alvaro Morata may get another chance to impress up front and make up for his slightly disappointing performance in the first leg of the cup tie at the weekend.

It could be a fruitful night for Los Blancos in the Parken stadium as Copenhagen maybe already in winter break mode. Or they could break ranks and just go for it, in order to go out of Europe this season with some sort of bang.

Key Player

Alvaro Morata will be the key player for Madrid in this match – if he indeed gets the start. He will be looking to continue is progression and relatively good performances thus far and possibly put some pressure on Benzema for a starting spot. Ancelotti will be looking for a good performance from the young striker in order to give himself a headache which is always good for managers. Especially with his side competing in three competitions.

Possible Line-ups

FC Copenhagen : Wiland ; Jacobsen, Mellberg, Sigurdsson, Bengtsson ; Gislason, Claudemir, Delaney, Toutouh ; Braaten, Jorgensen.

Real Madrid : Casillas ; Carjaval, Llorente, Pepe, Marcelo ; Xabi Alonso, Illaramendi ; Bale, Isco, Ronaldo ; Morata.

With Copenhagen going on their winter break after this fixture, Ronaldo back in the side and Morata who will be fired-up and eager to make the most of his chance, I can only see one winner in this match. I expect Madrid to win with ease probably 4 or 5 nil in all honesty. Even when Real Madrid rotate the gulf in class is so vast. Solbakken’s players will be doing remarkably well to get a point out of this match.
