Real Madrid’s training session post Phoenix game was a paid open to the public event at UCLA. There were a limited amount of VIP tickets where fans were able to get autographs from all of the players. The training lasted for about an hour.
After training, Marcelo took the mike in between games. Overall he was very humble and sincere. He tried to avoid any questions that he really had no knowledge or no business talking about. Here are some snippets:
“I haven’t talk to Carlo Ancelotti on tactics, whether I should go forward or whether I should stay back.”
“Gareth Bale is a great player. I don’t know him. I have never played against him. If he joins Real Madrid, I will welcome him. ”
“Every year we try to do our best for this shield, for the club. The World Cup is coming but I am going to fight and do my best this season for the success of the team.”
“Everton will be a tough match. We always want to win and this time is no different. ”
His thoughts and if Coentrao should leave: “Coentrao is with us and do not think otherwise. I will fight with him over the left back position, but I will try to help as that is what I do.
When asked whether he considered himself one of the top 5 left backs in the world: I am considered one of the best because I fought and I won a place in the Real Madrid” .
“I do not want to talk about Barcelona. We are in our preseason and I don’t want to focus on Barcelona”.
When asked whether he gave his Spanish friends from RM a hard time upon returning from the Confederations Cup: “Spain are the best team in the world and they are Brazil’s toughest competition. I don’t tease because the World Cup is next. I give them respect. They play for the best team in the world.”
