It has been a week full of controversy and rumours in Madrid, after Pepe’s and José Mourinho’s statements about the team. That environment was felt at Santiago Bernabéu stadium on Wednesday night match against Malaga. The players knew they needed to reward their public with another victory to calm down the controversy surrounding the team. Real Madrid went into their game knowing that mathematically it is impossible to win La Liga tittle, but a victory will delay the championship to their rivals. Being aware of that, the team imposed their skills against Malaga and defeated Pellegrini’s team by a clear 6-2.

The performance of the team was a message to all those who call Real Madrid a one man team. Six different players were able to score a goal. Goals from Raul Albiol, Cristiano Ronaldo, Mesut Ozil, Karim Benzema, Angel Di Maria and Luka Modric wrapped up the victory for the Whites. Assisted by Luka Modric, Raul Albiol put Real Madrid ahead with a header from a corner after merely three minutes. The lead didn’t last long, Roque Santa Cruz replied to the host with a goal twelve minutes later, and tied the score.

On minute twenty-one, Malaga was reduced to 10-men when Cristiano was pulled down by Malaga’s Sergio Sanchez in the box, resulting in a penalty and a red card. Unfortunately for Cristiano, Malaga keeper Wily Caballero saved the penalty. Minutes later, the number 7 redeemed himself when the team was awarded an indirect free kick. With a little help from Xabi Alonso, Cristiano blasted the ball into the top right corner in minute twenty-six. It was his 200th goal playing for Real Madrid, since joining from Manchester United. Cristiano Ronaldo could have scored four goals during the match against Malaga, but in the end all he really needed was one, to reach 200 goals playing for the team in 197 appearances. Cristiano effusively celebrated his goal, it was a classy and special moment from a player that, regardless of what the rumors and the media might say, has shown anything but professionalism and to be fully committed with his team.

Malaga’s bad luck continued, the Whites went on a goal rampage. In minute thirty-three, Mesut Ozil added the third goal assisted by a fantastic pass from Cristiano. Two minutes later Vitorino Artunes got one back for Malaga, straight into Diego Lopez’s top left-hand corner. Real Madrid still had one more goal on the way before going to the break and Cristiano assisted for Benzema to score the fourth goal of the night for the white team. Real Madrid continued to dominate in the second half, Modric scored the fifth goal for the team in minute sixty-three. Another special moment of the night was when the Bernabéu witnessed the debut of Castilla player Fabinho. Following this moment, bad news for the team arrived. Ozil left the field with a turned ankle. The team had to finish the match with 10 men because all three changes were already made. Before Malaga’s nightmare was over, Di Maria scored the sixth goal in added time with a curling shot into the corner from the edge of the area.

Regardless of what happened during the week, it was just an amazing game from Real Madrid, not only because of the score, but because Real Madrid became the first team in the history of La Liga, to reach 1000 victories at home, in their stadium, the Santiago Bernabéu. At the same time, Cristiano Ronaldo reached another personal milestone, his 200th goal with the Real Madrid shirt, followed by very effusive celebration leaving a message to his audience and showing that he wants to continue in the club.
