The match between Real Madrid and Mallorca can be summed up as courage, heart, and passion that both teams demonstrated on the night. It was not the best performance for Real Madrid, Cristiano and his many of his teammates missed many goal scoring opportunities.
Mallorca had the brighter start in the first half and took advantage of Real Madrid’s weakness on set plays. Mallorca scored the first goal of the match, only minutes after the game started. Madrid rebounded shortly after as Pepe gave an awesome pass to Higuain which tied the game 1-1. Mallorca then scored their second goal from a corner, and the first half ended with Real Madrid losing 2-1.
In the second half, Mourinho had to employ his big guns to turn the match around. He took Morata and Arbeloa out and brought in Özil and Benzema to shore up the attack. At minute 51, Cristiano Ronaldo scored a goal with a great header bringing the score level at 2-2. Madrid took the lead 3 minutes later when Modric scored a decisive goal, the score now 3-2. 3 minutes after that, Higuain scored his second goal of the night, 4-2. Seconds before the end of the game, Higuain could have got his hat-trick, but gave it up for Benzema to get his first goal of the game and scored the fifth goal of the night. FT 5-2. Real Madrid fought back with three goals in a six-minute span to beat Mallorca. The Whites were having a delightful time and really enjoying themselves. With this victory Real Madrid continues to keep their hold on second spot in the La Liga table.
In the mixed zone Pepe and Modric agreed that the team was not completely focused on the match, but they fixed their first half weaknesses, by creating more chances in the second half and giving it all to help the team win. Regarding the international break Pepe expressed: “I hope no one gets injured and we come back in perfect condition so that we can be selected by the coach”.
