Vela Getting Back In Form

Guardado and Gio, Not So Much

Vela Getting Back In Form
Carlos Vela, Mexican International and Real Sociedad forward started in the weekend clash between Real Sociedad and Real Zaragoza. Vela played for 85 minutes before being subbed out for Ifrán. Vela made his presence felt during the match, making an impact on both of Real Sociedad’s goals. The first goal was scored by Iñigo Martínez in the 54th minute after being on the receiving end of a corner kick taken by Vela. 5 minutes later, Vela scored on a Penalty Kick after he was fouled in the box. The final score of the match was 2 – 0.  During the post match interview Vela, recognized that he was still not at his best fitness level but was happy with his performance. It’s good to note that he seems to have no lasting scars or bumps from his head injury suffered during the opening seconds of the hotly contested friendly against Osasuna during the last FIFA break.

Guardado and Gio, Not So Much
Andres “El Principe” Guardado, Mexican International and Valencia Winger, did not suit up for last weekend’s encounter against the newly promoted Celta De Vigo. Guardado did start in the midweek Champions League match against Bayern Munich. Valencia lost 2 – 1 against Bayern and Guardado’s performance was widely criticized as being out of form. Guardado, was however, credited with an assist for Valencia’s only goal of the match. Guardado was substituted out in the 71st minute. It was interesting to note that Javi Martinez, formerly of Athletic Bilbao, made his debut as a starter for Bayern Munich in this match.

There is still no firm date or match announcement on Giovani Dos Santos’ debut with Mallorca. It was however announced that Gio has returned to the practice field for light field exercises and was no longer limited to physical therapy sessions in the training room. Because no announcement was made about his return, we do not expect him to start or suit up for this weekend’s match.
