La Liga Power Rankings ~ Round 21: Sevilla hit rock bottom

This week, the rankings were a little more stable.  We didn’t have the wild swings of the past week.  It appears that some teams are coming into form and stabilizing.  The bigger movers up the table are Athletic Bilbao with 3 wins in 6 and Villarreal who have managed to reduce the losing streak, with two losses out of six.  Racing Santander, Osasuna, and Sevilla are on a poor run of form.  Honestly Racing aren’t as bad as they look.  They were on a beautiful run, but now have picked up several draws.  Osasuna were in great form before Xmas but have taken a down turn now, even losing at El Sadar.  While Sevilla have crashed and burned and are at the bottom of the form table, no wins in the last 6 games, four losses out of six. Yikes! Are Del Nido and Monchi getting worried yet?

Here are the power rankings for round 21:

RANK (LW) TEAM RECORD COMMENT
(1) REAL MADRID 17-1-2 With the rumors of Mou’s exit (wishful thinking), the team continues to perform.
(1) BARCELONA 13-6-1 Fatigued, no space in the midfield and now a 7 point gap. No hay liga.
(3) ESPANYOL 9-4-7 Incredible run of form. Winning when the opponent is better is impressive.
(5) GETAFE 7-6-7 Luis Garcia’s men look solid and efficient. Dani Guiza had a good day (finally).
(8) ATHLETIC BILBAO 7-8-5 No defense, but Llorente back to scoring. Hat trick virgin no more.
(6) ATLETICO MADRID 8-5-7 Another win, what’s going on? Courtois and Koke with big games as well.
(7) REAL BETIS 7-2-11 Outwitted by Granada in a intense Andaluz derby.
(4) RACING SANTANDER 4-9-7 Racing deserved more vs Valencia except they couldn’t finish chances and delivered too many wayward crosses.
(10) REAL SOCIEDAD 6-6-8 Zurutuza gets his nose broken and all hell breaks lose. La Real ambush Sporting’s goal.
(12) MALLORCA 5-7-8 Shoulda, coulda, woulda, so many bad breaks and poor referee calls for the Islanders.
(11) VALENCIA 10-6-4 Aduriz looked impressive, nearly a one man remontada. But the defense and midfield were very shaky.
(15) VILLARREAL 4-8-8 Stellar defending by Marcos Senna & Co.  I can’t say enough about Senna’s performance. Pure class.
(9) OSASUNA 6-9-5 Osasuna could have equalized at the end. Unfortunate.
(14) RAYO VALLECANO 6-4-10 Loved the attacking mite of the Pirates, but a gaping hole in defense lost the game.
(13) SPORTING GIJON 5-3-12 See ya Preciado.
(18) GRANADA 6-4-10 New coach effect spurns on the team to victory.
(17) LEVANTE 9-4-7 Too many injuries. Free falling back to midtable soon.
(20) MALAGA 8-4-8 Finally a win and in a derby no doubt. Unfortunately Isco made a nasty tackle on Negredo.
(19) REAL ZARAGOZA 2-6-12 Zara didn’t look that bad, but just couldn’t keep up with the mighty Madrid.
(16) SEVILLA 6-8-6 A hard fought Andaluz derby, el Nervion never gave up, but it just wasn’t their day.
